A denture is a means of replacing missing teeth within the mouth. Dentures may be fabricated with a plastic or metal base and may contain one or several teeth (a partial denture) or the whole arch of teeth (a full denture). There have been some exciting recent developments involving flexible denture base materials, allowing a whole rethink of the denture concept.

A denture is known as a removable appliance as it is not fixed to the teeth, but is removed for cleaning.
